Discuss the protagonist of the American television series, Bones. Brennan is very loosely based on author Kathy Reichs. She is portrayed by Emily Deschanel. Although the character is named after the heroine in Reichs' crime novel series, her characterization was based on Reichs herself rather than the books' protagonist. The only similarity the two characters share is their occupation as a forensic anthropologist.

Very loosely based on Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan . .. The one in the books is older, been married and has a daughter named Katie. But in the Pilot Episode Emily makes a reference to her about the next Forensic Anthropologist being in Montreal, because in the books Tempe travels between Montreal and Charlotte, North Carolina.

You can't really compare the two Temperance Brennan's together, I tried when I first read the Kathy Reichs series and I didn't like the books at first. But once I stopped comparing, they were great. . .oh and everything that happens in the books, have some connection to Tempe one way or the other, its like all of Canada and the eastern coast of the United States.

I bought a lot of books of Kathy Reichs lately and I have to say that I think they're great. Of course, you can't compare the books to the show because that'll just seem so wrong, but if you read the books separately, don't think about the show, they're pretty good. I love how the book-Tempe is sarcastic and snappy and gets all the pop culture references, and the TV-Tempe is much naiver, younger. The whole ex-boozer-thing is pretty interesting too.

The only book I really didn't like was the one where Temperance goes off to merry old Jerusalem. It reminded me way too much of Dan Brown. Sure, the banter between Ryan and Brennan was as always splendid, but eh.. Jesus.. brother.. nuh uh.
